In "Veer Zaara" Shahrukh Khan played the role of an Indian Airforce Rescue Operations officer who accidentally meets a Pakistani girl Zaara and falls in love with her. Later, on a call from Pakistan he goes to meet her when they propose each other while she is engaged to Raza, a prominent politician's son. Veer & Zaara sacrifice their love for family honor. While returning to India, Veer is falsely implicated as an intelligence agent by Pakistani authorities and is kept in Lahore jail for 22 years. After an ensuing court battle, Veer is absolved of all charges.
